Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting, with paint made from pure pigment mixed with wax and resin. The mixture is applied hot, then reheated to fuse the layers together. You'll be amazed at how simple it is to collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate small drawings, pages from books, small pieces of handmade papers, or small metal objects. Learn how to add textures, to build up the wax, and carve down depending on if you want a dimensional feel or a flat painted feel. Don't worry if you haven't tried anything like this before, the medium is very forgiving.
